ZMC Hotels is working with the City of Superior Redevelopment Authority to put plans in motion to build a new 80-room Hampton Inn & Suites in Superior, Wisconsin at a cost of about $9 million. Construction is likely to start late this summer with an opening late spring 2015 and in time for Grandma’s Marathon.
The hotel will be located on the shores and overlooking Superior Bay. It will be positioned between the Richard I. Bong Veterans Historical Center and Perkins Restaurant and close to the entrance to Barker’s Island.
“We work hard to maintain our reputation as good neighbors and good employers, and we intend to continue that tradition with the Hampton Inn & Suites in Superior,” John Goldfine, vice chairman of ZMC Hotels, said in a prepared statement. “We’re looking forward to the opportunity to lodge more visitors who can enjoy Superior’s many attractions.”
“It’s our preference to operate Hampton Inns; they’re a great brand to operate because they support their franchisees,” said Jon Driscoll, chief operating officer for ZMC. It will be a good addition for the city because it is a good fit for both leisure and corporate guests as a mid-scale hotel.
ZMC Hotels President Todd Torvinen has been working with Superior Mayor Bruce Hagen and its Redevelopment Authority to advance this project. This will be the 12th Hampton Inn brand hotel for ZMC Hotels.
